Lisa Saulsman is an Associate Professor at the School of Psychological Science at The University of Western Australia, where she serves as Deputy Clinic Director of the Robin Winkler Clinic and Clinical Psychology Placement Coordinator. She is a registered clinical psychologist with extensive experience in both academic and clinical settings.
Dr. Saulsman's research focuses on innovative cognitive behavioral therapy approaches, particularly Imagery-Enhanced CBT, Transdiagnostic & Transtherapeutic CBT, Metacognitive Therapy, and the integration of Acceptance & Mindfulness in CBT. Her work bridges clinical practice with empirical research, emphasizing self-compassion and mental imagery techniques to address anxiety and depression.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward interdisciplinary applications of CBT, particularly in audiology settings and rural healthcare access. Her research examines how mental imagery techniques can be applied across different clinical contexts, from self-harm prevention to supporting older adults with hearing impairments. The work shows increasing focus on practical implementation of evidence-based interventions in real-world healthcare settings.
Dr. Saulsman is currently involved in the 'Resilient Emotions, Thoughts, Actions' research project, an online toolkit for young people funded by Healthway (2021-2026). She has developed numerous widely-used self-help CBT resources covering worry, self-esteem, distress intolerance, self-compassion, procrastination, health anxiety, and body dysmorphia, which are freely available online.
Her clinical work has centered on providing individual and group cognitive-behavioral therapies for adults with complex depressive and anxiety disorders. Prior to her academic career, she spent 13 years in public mental health at the Centre for Clinical Interventions in Perth and has private practice experience. She co-authored the book 'Imagery-Enhanced CBT for Social Anxiety Disorder' published by Guilford Press in 2018.
