Dr Hugh Escott is a Senior Lecturer in English Language at Sheffield Hallam University, focusing on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of language, literacy, and digital environments. His work explores how individuals negotiate institutional norms through creative and collaborative methods, particularly with children and youth in educational and community contexts. Research Interests: New Literacy Studies and socio-linguistics of writing Anti-racist and socially just methodologies Virtual Reality and digital-physical environment interactions Arts-based research and co-production with external partners Recent projects include collaborations with the Royal College of Art and Japanese VR developers through the UK-Japan Location-Based VR Research Network. He has contributed to AHRC-funded initiatives like the 'Language as Talisman' and 'Co-Producing Legacy' projects, emphasizing community engagement and youth participation. Teaching spans courses in English Language, Literature, and Creative Writing, with a focus on decolonizing education and digital communication practices. His research methodologies integrate ethnography, stylistics, and arts practices to analyze literacy in dynamic environments.
