Dr. Adam Cebula is a Lecturer in the Department of Ethics at the Faculty of Christian Philosophy, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (UKSW) in Warsaw. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from Jagiellonian University and has held academic positions since 1998, including roles at the National School of Public Administration and the Institute of English Studies at the University of Social Psychology. His primary research focuses on metaethics, philosophy of law, political philosophy, religion in the public sphere, and ethics of war. He has authored books, edited volumes, and numerous articles in journals like Philosophia and Journal of Military Ethics, addressing topics such as just war theory, moral complicity in war crimes, and the ethical dimensions of medieval political conversions.
Education: Completed studies in Philosophy and Sociology (University of Warsaw, 1993–1998) and Modern Languages (University of Warsaw, 1992–1997). Earned a Master’s degree under Prof. Joanna Górnicka-Kalinowska (1998) and a PhD from Jagiellonian University (2010), focusing on emotivist metaethics and Scottish Enlightenment moral philosophy.
Research emphasizes ethical theory, legal and political philosophy, and the intersection of religion and public life. He has organized international conferences on just war theory, ethics of military action, and moral absolutes. His work spans interdisciplinary themes, including constitutional law, historical conflict analysis, and ethical governance.
Publications include Moral Feelings. Contemporary Emotivism and the Moral Philosophy of the Scottish Enlightenment (2013) and edited volumes like Journal of Military Ethics (2020) and Studia Philosophiae Christianae (2017). His articles critically engage with thinkers like Michael Walzer, Adam Smith, and Richard Mervyn Hare, exploring moral agency, ethical deliberation, and the legitimacy of religious influence in public life.
He has presented at global conferences, including the European Academy of Religion and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies. His research bridges historical, legal, and ethical perspectives, addressing contemporary challenges in warfare ethics, constitutional adjudication, and moral philosophy.
