Louise Skilling is a Senior Lecturer in Policing Practice at the University of South Wales and currently serves as Curriculum Manager at Charles Sturt University’s School of Policing Studies. With over two decades of experience in human security and education, she has collaborated with international organizations such as the United Nations and Commonwealth’s Countering Violent Extremism Unit. PhD in Criminology and Social Policy Masters by Research in Development Geography BSc (Hons) in Development and Health in Disaster Management Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (HEA Fellowship) Her research focuses on policing education , community crime prevention , community safety , and procedural justice . Recent work includes analyzing evidence-based policing practices in England and Wales, risk education for UXO threats in Syria, and community policing models in Kenya. She has contributed to academic discourse through peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and international conferences like EUROCRIM and the Stockholm Criminology Symposium. Her publications span criminology, community safety, and conflict studies, with a focus on practical applications of research in policing and humanitarian contexts. Key subfields include democratic policing , urban crime prevention , IED threat reduction , and socioeconomic surveys in post-conflict zones . Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) Member of Commonwealth’s Pool of Specialists for Countering Violent Extremism Louise has operational policing experience and specializes in curriculum design, project evaluations, and community safety initiatives. She has integrated results-based management systems into training programs and facilitated cross-border policing collaborations.
