Christian Sorace is a Lecturer of Global China at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS). He previously served as an Assistant Professor at Colorado College from 2017 to 2022.
His research spans political concepts and practices in China and Mongolia, focusing on ideology, discourse, urban planning, air pollution, and aesthetics. He explores the legacies of communism in Asia and the crisis of global political forms, such as climate change and social inequality.
Recent publications include the book Shaken Authority (2017) on post-earthquake reconstruction, co-edited volumes like Afterlives of Chinese Communism (2019) and Proletarian China (2022), and a special issue on aesthetic practices and the Chinese state (Critical Inquiry, 2020). These works intersect with themes like political legitimacy, cultural policy, and labor history.
