Prof. Dr. Guido Mehlkop is Professor of Quantitative Methods of Empirical Social Research at the University of Erfurt's Faculty of Political Science. He serves as Vice Director of the Institute for Planetary Health Behavior (IPB) and provides academic advising for the Master's program in Political Science - Social Sciences. His research bridges rational choice theory with empirical investigations across multiple domains including criminology, cognitive enhancement, environmental decision-making, and social norm dynamics. Mehlkop's research examines how rational choice frameworks interact with social norms to explain behaviors ranging from criminal actions to pro-environmental choices. His work employs diverse methodologies including experimental designs, panel data analysis, and vignette studies to investigate decision-making processes in contexts such as substance use, energy consumption, and digital currency adoption. Recent publication trends show his continued focus on cognitive enhancement mechanisms, environmental behavior gaps, and emerging societal challenges related to technology adoption. His work consistently applies and tests theoretical models through rigorous empirical investigations across different cultural and demographic contexts. Mehlkop maintains active participation in major sociological associations including the German Sociological Society and American Sociological Association, frequently presenting research at international conferences. He has organized several academic conferences including 'Deviance in Organizations' and 'Cognitive Enhancement: Dissemination, Acquisition Strategies, Causes and Implications'.
