Dr. Mark Green is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Queen's University. He holds cross-appointments in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Education, and International Centre for the Advancement of Community Based Rehabilitation. He earned a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Engineering from Queen’s (1987) and a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from Cambridge University (1991). His research focuses on structural performance in extreme conditions, including fire resistance, cold regions effects, and FRP applications in concrete structures. He has received prestigious awards such as the Professional Engineers Ontario Medal for Research and Development and is a Fellow of multiple engineering societies. Research interests include: structural fire engineering, FRP-reinforced materials, sustainable concrete technologies, bridge dynamics, and expansion joint performance. He has advised postdoctoral scholars like John Kabanda. His work spans academic leadership roles, including Vice Dean (Graduate Studies and Recruitment) from 2018–2020. He actively promotes diversity and inclusion, co-chairing the Queen’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission Task Force and advising on Aboriginal Access initiatives. Publications emphasize fire-resistance of FRP-strengthened structures, recycled aggregate concrete performance, and thermal behavior. His work bridges engineering fundamentals with societal needs, integrating research, education, and community engagement.
