Fatma Banu Nergis is a Professor in the Department of Textile Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). Her research focuses on advanced textile materials, including sustainable fabrics, nanotechnology applications, and medical textiles. Key areas include UV-protective hemp textiles, radiation shielding materials, and acoustic-enhanced fabrics.
Research Interests: Her work spans knitted fabric engineering, comfort properties of textiles, and nanocomposite materials. She emphasizes eco-friendly solutions, such as recycled polyamide fibers for sportswear, and medical innovations like personalized compression stockings. Recent projects include developing X-ray protective materials and modeling disaster tent thermal performance.
