Stine Lomborg is a Professor of Digital Communication at the Department of Communication, University of Copenhagen's Faculty of Humanities. She also serves as Head of the Center for Tracking & Society since 2022. Her research focuses on digital tracking and datafication, examining their impacts on everyday life, work life, and citizenship within welfare societies. Dr. Lomborg's educational background includes a PhD in Media Studies from Aarhus University (2011), an MA in Media Studies from Aarhus University (2009), and Master's studies in Sociology at the University of Washington (2007). Her primary research areas encompass digital tracking, datafication, self-tracking across various life domains, method development in digital media research, and the sociological aspects of media and communication. She leads several major research projects including Datafied Living (funded by the Independent Research Foundation of Denmark and an ERC Starting Grant), Automating Welfare (funded by CHANSE), and Platform Intelligence in news (funded by the Innovation Fund Denmark). Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on understanding the societal implications of datafication, with particular attention to automated decision-making, employee productivity tracking, and the ethical dimensions of personal data usage. Her work bridges theoretical media studies with practical applications in welfare systems and everyday life contexts. Dr. Lomborg teaches and supervises students at all academic levels in empirical research methods, media and communication theory, media usage analysis, social media, and organizational communication. She actively engages with the public through media contributions, having appeared in various press outlets to discuss topics related to digital traces, algorithmic systems, and the merging of private and work life in digital contexts.
