Prof. Dr. Patrik August Buchmüller has been Professor of Economics and Business Administration for Banking and Finance at Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Villingen-Schwenningen since 2024. Previously, he worked as an independent consultant (2018–2024) advising financial institutions and supervisors on regulatory risk management, and held senior risk-management roles at Postbank AG, Bayerische Landesbank, and the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). Education: Doctoral studies in Economics, University of Tübingen (1999–2003, DFG-funded) Diplom in Economics, University of Tübingen & studies in Ontario, Canada (1993–1999) Research Focus: His work centers on ensuring financial stability through rigorous supervision and risk management. Key areas include sustainable finance, digital transformation in banking, operational risk under Basel frameworks, and the regulatory implications of cloud computing and IT outsourcing. Publications Overview: Since 2002 he has authored or co-authored numerous monographs, journal articles and handbook chapters. Recent outputs (2023–2025) concentrate on sustainability risk disclosure under CSRD, implementation guidance for the EU’s Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), and evolving supervisory expectations for cloud outsourcing. Earlier works provided authoritative commentary on Basel II/III operational-risk requirements, ICAAP/ILAAP, and MaRisk interpretation.
