Fionnuala Brennan is a Lecturer in the Department of Arts at South East Technological University (SETU), Ireland, with a dual affiliation to the School of Humanities and the Crime & Justice Research Group. She holds an EdD from Dublin City University (2017), a Masters in Media Studies from Technological University Dublin (2002), and a B.A. (Hons) in Communication Studies from Dublin City University (1992). She also earned a Microcredential in Restorative Practice from Maynooth University in 2023. Her research focuses on restorative practices in education, blended learning methodologies, and curriculum development for professional training programs such as the Higher Certificate in Custodial Care (HCCC). She has pioneered initiatives like Every Contact Counts (2019-2020) and the NTutorr project, addressing digital divides in Moodle-based learning. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes active, learner-centered approaches aligned with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Restorative Practices (RP), fostering inclusive environments through dialogue circles and flexible assessment methods like reflective portfolios and role-play recordings. Brennan has secured significant grants, including €100K via Springboard+ (2015) for MA in Arts & Heritage Management and €41.5K for programme development under the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning initiative (2019). She currently leads the HCCC, collaborating closely with the Irish Prison Service to integrate restorative principles into custodial care education. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education and justice systems. Advising: Supervised over 50 external agencies for student work placements on MA programmes and co-developed the Springboard+ initiative. Grants: Secured funding for student places and curriculum enhancement projects. Her professional networks include leadership roles in the NTutorr project and participation in national forums like the Restorative Practice Ireland Conference (2023). She has delivered presentations on topics such as restorative approaches to plagiarism and blended learning in penal education, emphasizing partnerships between academia and industry stakeholders.
