Mira Debs is a Lecturer in Sociology and Education Studies who previously directed the Education Studies program from 2017 to 2025. Her work bridges sociological theory with practical educational challenges in urban and international contexts. Her academic credentials include: PhD in Sociology from Yale University MPhil in European Politics and teacher training from Oxford University (Rhodes Scholar) Undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago Dr. Debs specializes in urban education , school integration , and Montessori systems , examining how parents navigate choice systems across Copenhagen, NYC, and Hartford. Her award-winning book Diverse Parents, Desirable Schools (2019) analyzes public Montessori schools' role in equitable education, featured in the New York Times and Washington Post . She co-edited the Bloomsbury Handbook of Montessori Education (2023), establishing herself as a global authority on Montessori adaptation. Recent publications (2021-2025) reveal dual research trajectories: global Montessori implementation (India, Africa, Europe) and school integration dynamics, including analyses of the model minority narrative's impact on Asian American perspectives and parental resistance to tracking reforms in Germany. Scientific recognition includes: Rhodes Scholarship Her research has been funded by the Spencer Foundation, Brady Foundation, and WEND Ventures.
