Irfan Khawaja is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at the University of Wolverhampton , affiliated with the School of Health and Society . With expertise in Children’s Physical Activity , Mixed-Methods Research , and Inclusive Pedagogical Practice , he bridges education, sports science, and public health. Joined University of Wolverhampton in July 2025 Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) Member of the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and ISBNPA His research focuses on physical activity in underrepresented groups , the student voice , and technological advancements in physical activity measurement . He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and led international keynote addresses on these topics. His recent publications analyze trends in children’s physical activity patterns using mixed-methods frameworks, with subfields spanning from sedentary behavior to Augmented Reality applications in exercise . He has presented at conferences in the UK, Netherlands, Canada, and New Zealand. Professional Memberships : Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), 2021–present Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), 2018–2021 Association for Physical Education (afPE) International Society for Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA) Teaching Experience : Over 16 years in mainstream UK schools, Higher Education, and internationally in South Africa and Uganda. Former Curriculum Coordinator for Key Stage 5 and Head of Department. Media Engagements : Regular contributor to BBC, ITV, and Sky News on topics like Ramadan-inclusive PE practices and cricket equity research.
