Daniel Nowinski is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in Plastic Surgery at the Department of Surgical Sciences, Uppsala University. Holding both MD and PhD qualifications, he serves as a key researcher and educator specializing in craniofacial deformities. His academic work spans experimental and clinical research domains with significant contributions to understanding and treating craniosynostosis and cleft lip/palate conditions.
Dr. Nowinski's research program focuses on two primary areas: experimental development of new materials and methods for bone regeneration in skull defects (conducted in collaboration with Professor Jöns Hilborn and Associate Professor Oommen Varghese at the Department of Chemistry), and comprehensive clinical research on craniosynostosis and cleft lip/palate conditions. His clinical work investigates brain development, genetic causes, surgical outcomes, intracranial pressure changes, eye function, speech development, and long-term results after bone grafting procedures.
His extensive publication record demonstrates expertise across multiple dimensions of craniofacial surgery, with recent work focusing on ophthalmological outcomes in craniosynostosis patients, morphometric analysis of skull deformities, optimizing surgical techniques for cleft repair, and evaluating long-term academic outcomes. Dr. Nowinski also contributes significantly to medical education, lecturing on wound healing in the sixth semester of the medical program at Uppsala University.
