She holds the Elsbach-Richards Endowed Chair in Surgery I and practices clinically in Trauma Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. Education : BS in Biological Sciences (UC Santa Barbara), MD (University of Colorado), General Surgery Residency (UCSF), Trauma & Critical Care Fellowship (UCSF) Board Certifications : American Board of Surgery (Surgery, Surgical Critical Care) Her research program focuses on trauma-induced coagulopathy , post-injury platelet biology , and hemorrhage resuscitation strategies . She employs translational research to identify novel blood system failure mechanisms, large observational studies to predict post-trauma complications, and multicenter clinical trials to evaluate therapeutic interventions. Article Trends : 2025 studies highlight her work on interferon-γ dynamics , platelet-virus interactions , and coagulation biomarkers . 2024 publications emphasize SGLT2 inhibitor effects , CLOTT-1 registry analyses , and endotheliopathy mechanisms . Earlier works establish her expertise in trauma thromboembolism , platelet transcriptomics , and gender disparities in trauma care . Scientific Awards include the American College of Surgeons' George H.A. Clowes Award, multiple Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma scholarships, and UCSF's Irene Perstein Award. As a mentor , she trains translational researchers across career stages, serves as a CTSI Mentor of the Year, and contributes to UC Berkeley dissertation committees . Her laboratory at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital leads platelet biology and trauma coagulopathy research, with funding from NIH, DoD, and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
