Prasad VG Katakam, MD PhD, is a tenured Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Tulane University School of Medicine. His research focuses on cerebrovascular dysfunction in insulin resistance and diabetes, with a particular interest in cerebral microcirculation, stroke, aging, and Alzheimer’s disease.
- Education: MBBS (Andhra University, 1989), MS in Pharmacology (University of Georgia, 1995), MD (ECFMG, 1995), PhD in Pharmacology (University of Georgia, 1999)
His work explores how mitochondrial bioenergetics, free radicals, and nitric oxide synthase isoforms regulate brain microvascular function and blood-brain barrier integrity. Techniques include isolated artery preparations, laser confocal microscopy, two-photon excitation microscopy, and Seahorse Extracellular Flux Analyzer for mitochondrial studies.
