Ning Liu

Dr. Ning Liu is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and Neurology at Tulane University School of Medicine, affiliated with the Clinical Neuroscience Research Center. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms and therapeutic strategies for acute brain injuries, including cerebral ischemia and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

• PhD: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Hunan Normal University, China
• Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Neuroprotection Research Laboratory, Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School (2014–2019)

Dr. Liu’s work bridges molecular neuroscience and translational stroke research, with expertise in mitochondrial metabolism, in vivo brain injury models, and neuroinflammatory pathways. His recent publications highlight:

• T cell and microglial contributions to post-injury neuroinflammation
• Mitochondrial unfolded protein response (UPRmt) in neuroprotection
• Therapeutic interventions for blood-brain barrier integrity and metabolic dysfunction

He continues to advance acute brain injury research at Tulane University’s Clinical Neuroscience Research Center.
