Marija Pećić is a Researcher at the Institute of Botany and Botanical Garden 'Jevremovac' within the Faculty of Biology at the University of Belgrade. She specializes in the ecology of periphyton, phytoplankton, and aerophytic algae, with a focus on nutrient cycling and environmental assessment in aquatic ecosystems. Education: B.Sc (2010-2015), M.Sc (2015-2016), Ph.D (2016-2024) at University of Belgrade Employment: Researcher-intern (2018-2021), Researcher-associate (2021-present) Her research explores phosphorus accumulation mechanisms in biofilms, lampenflora dynamics in tourist caves, and algal community responses to anthropogenic impacts. She has authored 15+ publications since 2018, with recent work addressing cave phototrophic communities, nutrient cycling in reservoirs, and diatom-based water quality assessments. Key scientific contributions include demonstrating periphyton's role in phosphorus remediation, documenting cave lampenflora under artificial light, and analyzing long-term ecological changes in protected wetlands. Her work integrates field studies and experimental approaches across diverse freshwater habitats. Contact: marija.pecic@bio.bg.ac.rs | Google Scholar | Scopus
