Dr. Anne Jeffrey is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Affiliate Professor of Medical Humanities at Baylor University, with an additional role as Adjunct Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine. She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Georgetown University and a B.A. in Philosophy from Baylor University. Her research focuses on metaethics, normative ethics, virtue ethics, and moral psychology, with interdisciplinary engagement in bioethics, philosophy of religion, and legal/political philosophy. Her forthcoming monograph, Being and Becoming Good: On the Diversity of Human Goodness and Virtue , advances an inclusivist Aristotelian framework. She has led or co-led major grants, including a $4.7M Templeton Religion Trust project on patience (2025–2030) and a participatory action research initiative, Empowered , addressing adolescent virtue development in underserved communities. Dr. Jeffrey has taught at multiple institutions, including the University of South Alabama and Notre Dame’s Hope and Optimism Project. She advises the Baylor Bioethics Bowl team and collaborates across disciplines to integrate theological, philosophical, and psychological perspectives. Her research emphasizes the application of virtue ethics to contemporary issues, such as medical ethics and social justice. She has published widely in journals like Philosophy Compass , Episteme , and Religious Studies , with a focus on topics like patience, hope, and the intersection of theology and moral psychology. Her work bridges academic philosophy with practical ethics, engaging both scholarly and public audiences through podcasts, blogs, and educational initiatives. Grants and collaborations include Templeton-funded projects on patience and interdisciplinary theological inquiry, as well as bioethics education initiatives. She has supervised multiple graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, fostering a new generation of scholars in ethics and philosophy. Labs/Teams: Co-leads Baylor College of Medicine’s ethics thread with Claire Horner and Devan Stahl; collaborates with psychologists (e.g., Krista Mehari) and theologians (e.g., Sarah Schnitker) on transdisciplinary projects.
