Dr. Casey Wichman is an Associate Professor in the School of Economics at the Georgia Institute of Technology, part of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. He also holds positions as a University Fellow at Resources for the Future, serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE), and is a Co-Editor at the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management (JEEM). His educational background includes: Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Maryland (2015) M.S. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of Maryland (2014) M.S. in Economics from North Carolina State University (2011) B.A. in Economics, cum laude, from Ithaca College (2009) Dr. Wichman is an applied microeconomist working at the intersection of environmental and public economics. His research focuses on how people interact with the natural and built environment, and what that behavior reveals about the value of environmental amenities. His work spans water and energy demand management, climate change impacts and policy, valuation of environmental resources and infrastructure, urban transportation, public goods provision, and outdoor recreation. Methodologically, he relies on program evaluation techniques and large micro-data sets to estimate causal effects of environmental policies on economic behavior. Analysis of Dr. Wichman's publications reveals a consistent focus on environmental and resource economics, particularly examining the intersection of human behavior with environmental policy. His work frequently employs advanced econometric techniques to analyze large datasets, with a particular emphasis on water and energy economics, climate change impacts, and transportation behavior. A notable trend is his exploration of how information and pricing mechanisms influence consumer behavior in environmental contexts.
