Robin Kamal

Dr. Robin Kamal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and holds a courtesy appointment in the Department of Surgery (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery). He serves as Medical Director for Accountable Care, Value-Based Care Program, and Orthopaedic Service Line at Stanford Health Care. Dr. Kamal directs the VOICES Health Policy Research Center and collaborates with national and international physicians.

Dr. Kamal's research focuses on wrist and elbow injuries, distal radius fractures, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), and quality metrics in orthopaedic surgery. He leads studies on surgical capacity building in LMICs, SDOH in hand surgery, and implementation of accountable care strategies. His clinical expertise spans trauma and reconstructive surgery for upper extremity conditions, including carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, and sports injuries.

Recent publications highlight his work on surgical technique validation, PROMs standardization, and global health disparities. Dr. Kamal has developed international quality measures to reduce low-value care in hand surgery and investigates temporal trends in surgical complications.
