Dr. Liao Yue is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), affiliated with the College of Nursing and Health Innovation. Her research focuses on leveraging wearable sensors and mobile technologies to promote healthy behaviors for chronic disease prevention, particularly in cancer survivors and underserved populations. She directs the Physical Activity and Wearable Sensors (PAWS) Lab, which investigates real-time data capture methods to develop personalized interventions. Dr. Liao holds affiliations with the Multi-Interprofessional Center for Health Informatics and the Division of Data Science at UTA. Dr. Liao’s education includes a PhD in Health Behavior Research (University of Southern California, 2015), an MPH in Biostatistics (University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, 2009), and a BS in Health Promotion (University of Southern California, 2006). She completed postdoctoral training at MD Anderson Cancer Center and holds certifications such as the ACUE Credential in Effective College Instruction. Her research interests span behavioral interventions, digital health, and health disparities. Key projects include the Active Living After Cancer program for medically underserved survivors and the BLOOM Study examining cardiovascular health in Black women. She has received prestigious awards like the PRIDE-CVD Scholar (2024) and the NCI TREC Fellowship (2019). Dr. Liao actively collaborates with community partners, leading initiatives like Kourage Health (a cancer survivor exercise program) and serving as Associate Director of the Center for Healthy Living and Longevity. She has secured over $3 million in grants, including NIH-funded studies on cardiovascular health disparities and wearable sensor-based interventions. Her teaching includes courses on public health advocacy, behavioral epidemiology, and research methods. She advises numerous undergraduate and graduate students on projects related to digital health, physical activity, and health equity.
