Hugo Benitez-Silva is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Stony Brook University, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on labor economics, social security policy, health economics, and computational methods. He teaches courses such as Applied Microeconomics and Graduate Workshops in Applied Microeconomics.
His work examines topics like retirement behavior, disability insurance, Medicare costs, and labor market dynamics. Recent studies include analyses of Social Security reforms, the impact of vehicle recalls on accidents, and the effects of employment uncertainty on older workers.
He has received several grants and awards, including the RecerCaixa 2013 Grant and FIPROS 2011 Research Awards. His research has been published in journals like Labour Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, and Health Economics.
Benitez-Silva serves as a referee for major economics journals and organized the 7th International Conference of the Society of Computational Economics. He is affiliated with the Stony Brook Center for Game Theory.
