Dr. Kevin Masters is Professor of Psychology at University of Colorado Denver's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He directs research in cardiovascular health psychology examining how meaning/purpose influences health behaviors and outcomes. His NIH-funded work focuses on behavioral interventions for metabolic syndrome remission and psychological factors in cardiovascular disease.
Research explores connections between religiousness/spirituality and health, particularly how meaning frameworks promote physical activity adherence. Recent studies published in Annals of Behavioral Medicine and IEEE Transactions examine psychosocial predictors of distress during COVID-19 and mortality mediation pathways.
Principal investigator for the ELM Lifestyle Program multisite trial targeting metabolic syndrome. Extensive grant funding includes NIH Science of Behavior Change Network projects and American Heart Association awards. Supervises doctoral candidates in clinical health psychology.
Teaches graduate courses in health psychology, behavioral medicine, and research methods. Research has been supported by NIH, VA Healthcare, and American Heart Association grants totaling over $5 million.
