Dr Monica Cuskelly is a Professor and Director of the long-running Down Syndrome Research Program at The University of Queensland’s School of Education. Her research focuses on developmental trajectories of individuals with Down syndrome, family functioning in disability contexts, and self-regulation in vulnerable populations. She has authored numerous books and chapters on these topics, including Families of Adults with Down Syndrome and contributions to Goal Setting and Motivation in Therapy . Her work spans over three decades, addressing psycho-social dimensions of intellectual disability, mastery motivation, and policy implications such as Australia’s National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). She collaborates with international researchers on projects in Indonesia, China, and Ghana, examining parenting practices, inclusive education, and disability service efficacy.
