Sibilla Cantarini serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Verona, specializing in German Language, Translation and Linguistics (GERM-01/C). Her academic work spans multiple degree programs including Bachelor's degrees in Foreign Languages and Literatures and Languages and Cultures for Tourism and International Commerce, as well as Master's programs in Languages, Literatures and Digital Culture. Her research interests form a comprehensive framework examining the interface between lexicon/syntax and semantics/syntax with reference to German, Italian, and French from a comparative perspective. Additional research areas include semantic grammar, lexical semantics of contemporary German, morphology of contemporary German, and history of linguistics. She has particular expertise in acquisition of German as a second language for Romance speakers, discourse analysis, conversation/dialogue analysis, dictionaries, phraseology, grammar of predicates, teaching methods, and syntax/morphology. Professor Cantarini leads significant research projects including 'Le Digital Humanities applicate alle lingue e letterature straniere' (since 2018), 'Negation in Italian and German' (since 2012), 'Studio comparativo delle forme di espressione della finalità in tedesco, francese e italiano' (since 2012), and 'Ricerche nel campo dei predicati nominali di evento del tedesco' (since 2006). Since 2015-2016, she has been a member of the international project 'Lernerplattform Itammen' (contrastive linguistics project) and served as Guest Professor at Heinrich-Heine-University in Düsseldorf during the 2015-2016 academic year. Her teaching portfolio includes extensive work across multiple academic years (2006-2025) with courses such as German language 2, German language and linguistics, Teaching lab - German language, and Varieties of German 2: tourism and commerce.
