Chris McLachlan is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management and Programme Director for BSc Business Management (Year 2) at Queen Mary University of London's School of Business and Management. He holds an academic membership with the CIPD and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His research focuses on the socio-economic consequences of deindustrialization, organizational restructuring, and labour market dynamics, particularly in the UK steel industry and post-pandemic employment policies. Current projects include international comparisons of steelworkers' post-redundancy transitions and the normalization of job insecurity among young workers in England and Germany. Teaching responsibilities include leading modules on Human Resource Management and 'The Changing World of Work' in the Summer School. He actively supervises PhD students in employment relations and HRM-related topics. Recent publications address restructuring regimes, furlough schemes, and comparative analyses of global labour practices, appearing in journals like Human Relations and Work, Employment and Society. Research interests span industrial relations processes, responsible downsizing frameworks, and the interplay between state regulation and employer practices. His collaborative projects include cross-national studies on labour market policy and organizational change strategies.
