Jörg Wiegratz is an Associate Professor of Global Political Economy and Development at the University of Leeds, School of Politics and International Studies. His research focuses on neoliberalism’s socio-economic impacts in Africa, particularly Uganda and Kenya, with emphases on moral economy, economic fraud, and anti-fraud measures. He holds a PhD from the University of Sheffield, an MA in International Political Economy from Warwick, and an MA in Economics from Cologne.
Wiegratz teaches modules like 'North-South Linkages' and 'Africa in the Contemporary World.' He has held editorial roles at the Review of African Political Economy (ROAPE) and coordinates blog series on 'Capitalism in Africa.' His work explores neoliberalism’s cultural dimensions, including commercialization of football in Eastern Africa and post-pandemic urban stress in Nairobi. Funding support has come from institutions like the British Academy and Makerere University.
