Howard Stein is a Professor at the University of Michigan, holding dual appointments in the Department of Afroamerican and African Studies and the Department of Epidemiology. He is a development economist with expertise in Africa's socioeconomic transformation, focusing on health systems, poverty dynamics, and institutional frameworks. His research spans foreign aid, structural adjustment policies, property rights formalization, and industrial policy in Africa and Asia.
