Professor Judith Wolfe is the Professor of Philosophical Theology at the School of Divinity, University of St Andrews. She joined in 2014 after roles at St John’s College, Oxford, and the European College of Liberal Arts in Berlin. Her research focuses on systematic theology, philosophical theology (especially European traditions), and theology’s intersection with the arts. She leads the School of Divinity and serves on international editorial and advisory boards, including as general editor of Oxford Studies in Philosophical Theology and Journal of Inklings Studies . Education : BA in English Literature and Interdisciplinary Honours Studies (Amirim), Hebrew University of Jerusalem MPhil in English Literature (1500–1660), University of Oxford MA in Theology, University of Oxford DPhil in Theology, University of Oxford Research Interests : Eschatology, the role of imagination in theology, interdisciplinary engagement between theology, philosophy, literature, and art. Recent work includes The Theological Imagination (2024) and Philosophical Myths of the End (2022). She explores themes like hope, aesthetics in Christian thought, and the legacy of thinkers like Heidegger and Shakespeare. Speaking and Media : Invited talks globally, including BBC Radio 4’s In Our Time and PBS’s Closer to Truth . A documentary on her work, At the Threshold , was filmed for broadcast. Awards and Grants : Teaching Excellence Award (2014), Denyer and Johnson Prize (2005), and grants from the John Templeton Foundation. Supervises PhD students in systematic theology and theological aesthetics. Labs/Teams : Leads projects like Art as Revelation (collaborating with artists on cognitive effects of religious art) and Widening Horizons in Philosophical Theology . Engages in interdisciplinary initiatives linking theology with psychology and predictive processing theory.
