Holly Ordway is a Visiting Professor of Apologetics at the School of Christian Thought at Houston Christian University (HCU). She holds a PhD in English from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, alongside MA degrees in Christian Apologetics (Biola University) and English (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), and a BA in English from UMass Amherst.
Her research and teaching focus on cultural and imaginative apologetics, particularly literary apologetics and the works of the Inklings (e.g., Tolkien and C.S. Lewis). She lectures internationally on topics such as medieval literature, modern cultural trends, and apologetic methodologies. Her current book project, Tolkien’s Modern Sources: Middle-earth Beyond the Middle Ages, explores intersections between medieval and modern influences in Tolkien’s work.
Dr. Ordway’s publications include books like Apologetics and the Christian Imagination (2017) and Not God’s Type (2014), as well as peer-reviewed chapters analyzing Arthurian sources for the Inklings, Shakespearean drama, and Lewis’s poetic contributions. She serves as Charles Williams Subject Editor for the Journal of Inklings Studies and has contributed to Christianity Today, Books & Culture, and other journals.
She actively engages in Christian intellectual communities, including judging for Christianity Today’s Book of the Year award (Apologetics category). Her teaching portfolio spans courses like Creative Writing and Apologetics and Advanced Apologetics Thesis, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to faith and reason.
