Einar Stoltenberg serves as Head of Department in the Department of Product Design within the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet). With a background as an artisan and designer holding a degree from KHIO, he brings extensive professional experience to his academic role. Stoltenberg's educational foundation comes from KHIO, where he developed his expertise in design. Before entering academia, he ran his own business for several years, completing numerous assignments for institutions including Østfold Fredrikstad Hospital, the Armed Forces, Hospice Lovisenberg, various schools and hospitals, and several churches. His professional journey includes participation in multiple exhibitions at prestigious venues such as Kunstnerforbundet, Nordenfjeldske kunstindustrimuseum, and The Museum of Decorative Arts and Design. Stoltenberg's research focuses on the intersection of design theory and practice, with particular emphasis on product semantics , design methodology , and emotional design . His work explores how materials' aesthetic and physical properties convey meaning, and how symbolism functions within product design. He has a strong interest in educational approaches that connect traditional making skills with contemporary design practice, often incorporating outdoor learning spaces and experimental methods. His research demonstrates a consistent concern with sustainability, cultural understanding, and the integration of international perspectives in design education.
