Joachim Zweynert is a Professor of International Political Economy at the Faculty of Business and Society, Department of Philosophy, Politics and Economics, at the University of Witten/Herdecke. He leads the PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) MA program and serves as a Board Member of his faculty. His research focuses on international institutional transfers, economic ideas in historical contexts, and the interplay between political and economic systems in global development.

His research examines globalization, governance, and inequality through a contextual lens. He has secured significant third-party funding from the BMBF (€2.6M) and VolkswagenStiftung (€273K) for interdisciplinary projects on post-socialist institutional change and EU eastern expansion.
Recent publications highlight trends in institutional dynamics, economic thought history, and development challenges. His work spans empirical case studies (e.g., Mozambique, Russia) to theoretical advancements in contextual economics. As editor of the Journal of Contextual Economics since 2016, he advocates interdisciplinary approaches to 21st-century global issues.
