Hailan Zhou is currently an Associate Professor in the Accounting Department at Bentley University. Zhou holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from Cornell University, an M.Phil. in Accounting from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and a Master's degree in Accounting from Cornell University.

Zhou's teaching interests include Cost and managerial accounting and Performance management and evaluation. The research interests center around Behavioral research in managerial accounting, with a focus on how incentive structures, performance evaluation systems, and information sharing mechanisms affect organizational behavior and outcomes.
The scholarly work includes 15 publications spanning from 2004 to 2025, covering topics such as staged venture capital financing, incentive effects on creativity and altruism, forecast accuracy, and fraud detection mechanisms. These works demonstrate a consistent interest in understanding how incentive schemes, information structures, and organizational design impact accounting and management practices.
