Dr. Kelly Núñez Ocasio is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Texas A&M University. She leads the Tropical Systems Group, focusing on tropical meteorology with emphasis on mesoscale convective systems (MCS), African easterly waves, tropical cyclone genesis, and monsoon dynamics. Her work integrates storm-resolving modeling (WRF, MPAS) with observational analyses to study climate impacts on tropical systems. Education: Ph.D., Meteorology and Atmospheric Science, Penn State University (2021); B.S., Physics, University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (2016). Research Interests: - Tropical cyclone formation mechanisms - MCS-AEW interactions - Climate change impacts on tropical weather - African monsoon dynamics - High-resolution model development Publications highlight advancements in MCS tracking algorithms (TAMS), climate modeling applications (pseudo-global warming studies), and field campaign analyses (CPEX-CV). She actively promotes diversity in STEM through publications addressing Hispanic/Latinx representation in atmospheric sciences. Laboratory/Team: Tropical Systems Group at Texas A&M, specializing in multiscale process studies using convection-permitting models. Current opportunities for graduate students/postdocs are available through the ATMO department.
