Professor Carl Lachat is a prominent researcher at Ghent University's Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Department of Food Safety and Food Quality. With over 160 publications and extensive collaboration networks, his work spans nutrition science, food safety, and public health, with particular emphasis on maternal and child nutrition in low-resource settings. His research has significant impact across Agriculture and Food Sciences (169 publications) and Medicine and Health Sciences (133 publications). Professor Lachat's research interests focus on the intersection of nutrition, food safety, and sustainability. His work examines dietary diversity assessment, mycotoxin exposure, maternal and child health interventions, and sustainable food systems. He has pioneered research on biodiverse diets and their co-benefits for human and planetary health, with significant contributions to understanding how food systems can simultaneously address nutritional adequacy and environmental sustainability.
