His academic roles include being a Docent (since 2010) and holding a PhD in Medicine from Karolinska Institutet (2005) with a Master's in Economics from Stockholm School of Economics.
His research focuses on obesity-related surgery outcomes, maternal-fetal health, rheumatoid arthritis management, and epidemiological studies of chronic diseases. Notable work includes evaluating bariatric surgery impacts on mental health, pregnancy outcomes, and cardiovascular risks, as well as cost-effectiveness analyses of treatments for rheumatoid arthritis.
Neovius has authored/co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals such as The Lancet, NEJM, and BMJ. His studies frequently use large-scale Swedish registries to analyze population-level health trends. Current research themes include surgical interventions for obesity, disease burden in elite athletes, and long-term health trajectories after chronic inflammatory conditions.
He collaborates with national and international teams on projects funded through grants focusing on epidemiological methods and clinical outcomes. His work bridges clinical practice and public health policy, particularly in obesity and rheumatology domains.
