Michael B. Hoppa is an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Dartmouth College and Co-Director of the Integrative Neuroscience Graduate Program. He also holds affiliations with the Molecular and Cellular Biology Graduate Program, the Program in Experimental and Molecular Medicine, and the Institute for Biomolecular Targeting. His research focuses on ion channel function, synaptic transmission, and neurodegenerative disorders using optogenetic and fluorescent microscopy techniques. Education B.A. from Reed College D.Phil. from University of Oxford Research Interests Dr. Hoppa's laboratory investigates how ion channels and their molecular partners regulate electrical signaling in neurons. His team uses human disease-causing mutations as tools to study channelopathies and develops optical techniques for measuring ion channel activity at the nanometer scale within live neurons. Current projects aim to identify therapeutic regulators of synaptic dysfunction in aging and developmental neurological disorders.
