Nikolaos Theodoropoulos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the School of Economics and Management, University of Cyprus, a position he has held since 2021. Previously, he served as Assistant Professor (2012-2021) and Lecturer (2008-2012) at the same institution, following research work at University College London's Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration (CreAM) and a Teaching Fellowship at the University of Leicester. His educational background includes a BSc in Economics from the University of York (1999), MSc (2001), and PhD (2006) from the University of Leicester. His research spans Labor Economics with emphases on Migration, Social Networks, Welfare Programs, Retirement, Education, Human Capital, and Econometrics, utilizing advanced database design and enterprise-labor force analysis. Recent publications (2025-2017) reveal three dominant themes: (1) pandemic labor market impacts (vaccination disparities, job loss during containment), (2) persistent wage differentials (gender gaps, ethnic disparities, workplace discrimination mechanisms), and (3) human capital dynamics (training responses to quality competition, conscription effects on education). His work frequently leverages international datasets like SHARE, with notable findings on ethnic wage gaps receiving coverage in Forbes, Financial Times, and The Conversation. He serves as Country Team Leader for SHARE (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe) in Cyprus and holds Research Fellow positions at the ROCKWOOL FOUNDATION BERLIN and Global Labor Organization (GLO). His teaching portfolio includes undergraduate courses in Econometrics, Labor Economics, and EU Economics, plus graduate courses in Industrial Organization and Business Decision-Making.
