- MSc in Quantitative Finance, Vienna University of Economics and Business
- BSc in Economics, University of Vienna
- BA in Political Science, University of Vienna
His research interests center on modeling complex economic systems, including supply chain dynamics, climate stress testing, and the socioeconomic impacts of pandemics and energy shocks. He utilizes agent-based models, network analysis, and input-output frameworks to study systemic risks and transitions in economic and energy systems. His work is highly policy-relevant, addressing challenges in energy security, climate resilience, and global trade.
Anton Pichler's recent publications span topics such as gas supply disruptions in Europe, modeling pandemic economic impacts, and advocating for granular supply chain data. His work has appeared in Science, Nature Human Behaviour, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, and other leading journals. A recurring theme is the use of firm-level data to improve macroeconomic modeling and policy design, especially in times of crisis.
He has received the prestigious James S. McDonnell Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship for his work in dynamic and multi-scale systems. This award supported his research at the Complexity Science Hub from 2021 to 2023.
Anton leads the project Climate Stress Testing, funded by the OeNB Anniversary Fund, which develops a data-driven agent-based model of the global energy sector to assess firm-level transition risks. He collaborates widely with researchers at CSH, INET Oxford, and other institutions. Although formal PhD advisees are not listed, he works closely with early-career researchers on major publications.
He is actively involved in initiatives to map global supply networks and has contributed to policy briefs urging G20 action on supply chain data transparency. His insights have been featured in international media, including the South China Morning Post, highlighting the global relevance of his work.
