Dr. Haimeng Ren is a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics at the University of Southampton, where she also earned her PhD in Applied Linguistics/Translation Studies (2022). Her research focuses on cognitive processes in translation, translation pedagogy, and the integration of translation technology. She serves as Programme Lead for the MA in Translation and Professional Communication Skills, emphasizing AI's role in translation while preserving human critical thinking. Education: PhD in Applied Linguistics (University of Southampton, 2022). Research interests include cognitive translation studies, translation of cultural allusions, and the application of eye-tracking techniques to study student translators' decision-making. She explores AI's impact on translation practice and pedagogy, particularly in culturally complex contexts. Teaching includes leading modules on Translation Technology, Interpreting, and Practical Translation, as well as supervising MA dissertations in Translation Studies and Applied Linguistics. She advocates for critical reflection on AI tools in translation education. Her work has been published in journals like Translation, Cognition & Behavior and Babel , analyzing strategies for translating proper-name allusions and literary texts between Chinese and English.
