Marta Ferrer Garcia is an Associate Professor at the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology, University of Barcelona. She currently serves as Vice-Rector for Students and Participation since 2021 and previously held the role of Academic Secretary at the Faculty of Psychology (2018-2021). Her academic training includes a Degree in Psychology (2000) and a PhD (2010), both from the University of Barcelona, alongside specialized master's and postgraduate qualifications in clinical psychopathology and educational intervention. Her research focuses on applying virtual reality (VR) technologies to clinical and health psychology, particularly in treating eating disorders and body image disturbances. She leads the VR-PSY Lab and collaborates with the Innovation Group for Teaching Improvement in Clinical Psychology. Key areas include modifying attentional biases through VR exposure therapy for anorexia nervosa, and developing VR-based protocols for alcohol use disorder treatment. Recent publications (2017-2021) emphasize VR applications in body image assessment, attentional bias analysis, and treatment efficacy for eating disorders. She has coordinated EU-funded projects like AN-VR-BE (2020-2023) and collaborated on studies involving Hospital de Sant Rafael. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in Psychopathology and Personality Psychology. Her research portfolio includes 9 major projects (2015-2025) addressing information competence in psychology education, musculoskeletal patient treatment satisfaction, and VR exposure techniques.
