Michael Bixter is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Montclair State University. He holds a PhD in Cognitive Psychology from Stony Brook University with a graduate certificate in Quantitative Methods, and completed postdoctoral research positions at Georgia Tech and Arizona State University.
Dr. Bixter's research focuses on several key areas of cognitive psychology and decision science:
- Decisions about delayed and risky rewards
- How decisions are made in small-group situations
- How decision making and other cognitive processes develop across adulthood
His work demonstrates significant contributions to understanding how social contexts influence individual decision processes, particularly regarding risk assessment and temporal discounting. Recent research has examined age-related differences in decision making, the social contagion of intertemporal preferences, and how technology adoption patterns differ among older adults. His methodological approach often combines experimental paradigms with quantitative analysis techniques.
Dr. Bixter has received recognition for his scholarly contributions through numerous peer-reviewed publications spanning cognitive psychology, behavioral economics, and human-computer interaction. His research shows consistent focus on decision processes across the lifespan and in social contexts.
As an educator, Dr. Bixter teaches statistics courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, bringing his research expertise into the classroom to provide students with practical applications of statistical methods in psychological research. His office hours are held in Dickson Hall Room 257 or via Zoom, reflecting his commitment to student engagement and accessibility.
