Dr. Gülsen Uçarkuş is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geological Engineering at Istanbul Technical University's Faculty of Mines. Her research focuses on active tectonics, paleoseismology, and marine geology with a particular emphasis on the North Anatolian Fault system and seismic hazards in Turkey. She holds a PhD in Earth System Science from Istanbul Technical University (2011) and has conducted postdoctoral research at UC San Diego (2011-2014). Education: PhD: Istanbul Technical University, Earth System Science (2007-2011) MSc: Istanbul Technical University, Geodynamics (1998-2002) BSc: Istanbul Technical University, Geological Engineering (1995-1999) Research Interests: Her work investigates earthquake-induced sedimentary processes in marine basins, fault segmentation studies in critical regions like the Sea of Marmara, and climate-hydrology interactions through lake and marine sediment records. Key projects include analyzing turbidite deposits triggered by seismic events and reconstructing Holocene environmental changes. Grants & Projects: Principal Investigator of TÜBİTAK-funded projects on paleoseismology and seismic hazard assessment Lead researcher in studies of the Kumburgaz Basin and Ganos Fault segment Labs/Teams: Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on marine geohazard research and tectonic studies involving international partners like UC San Diego and institutions in France and Italy.
