Prof. Sibel Tatar Erkül is a Turkish academic at Akdeniz University's Faculty of Engineering, Department of Geological Engineering. She has served as Professor since 2022 and previously held Associate Professor and Assistant Professor roles at the same institution. She also held a visiting Assistant Professor position at Vienne University in 2011.
Education:
- PhD (2003) in Geological Engineering, Cumhuriyet University
- MSc (1997) in Geological Engineering, Cumhuriyet University
- BSc (1995) in Geological Engineering, Cumhuriyet University
Her research focuses on petrology, geochemistry, isotope geology, and geodynamic evolution of magmatic systems in Turkey, particularly Western Anatolia. She has published extensively on granitoids, volcanic complexes, and syn-extensional magmatism, with over 100 publications in SCI/Scopus journals.
Recent articles analyze garnet xenoliths (2024), Triassic mafic igneous systems (2022), gem garnet characteristics (2021), and slab tearing-related volcanism (2019). Her work often integrates U-Pb geochronology, trace element analysis, and structural geology to unravel magmatic processes.
She has supervised multiple MSc/PhD theses and participated in 12 funded projects as principal investigator or co-investigator. Her managerial experience includes Head of Department and Deputy Head of Department roles at Akdeniz University.
