معرفی
Professor Malcolm Hole is a Personal Chair at the University of Aberdeen's School of Geosciences, where he serves as Head of the Geology & Geophysics Discipline and Undergraduate Programme Coordinator. With a career spanning multiple decades, he has specialized in volcanology, igneous petrology, and large igneous provinces (LIPs), particularly focusing on the geology of Scotland and its global implications.
- Education: BSc, MSc, PhD in geological sciences
- Research Themes: Mantle melting dynamics, phase equilibria in magmatic systems, fingerprinting volcanic sources, and the stratigraphic architecture of basaltic lava fields
- Teaching: Coordinates and teaches courses in Earth history, volcanology, planetary geology, and geological fieldwork
His recent publications analyze volcanic stratigraphy in the North Atlantic Igneous Province, hyaloclastite delta deposits in Iceland, and mantle processes in slab window environments. These works integrate field photogrammetry, geochemical modeling, and seismic analysis to understand volcanic basin evolution.
Scientific awards include his recognition as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). He actively participates in research groups like StratLIP and the Boltysh Meteorite Impact Crater Project, while supervising postgraduate students and contributing to curriculum development in geosciences.
