Dr. Erkan Yalcin is a Lecturer in the College of Business, Government and Law at Flinders University, Australia. With an international academic background spanning Turkey, Canada, the UK, and Australia, Dr. Yalcin has taught at eight different institutions and studied at four universities. Dr. Yalcin's educational background includes: Bachelor of Science in Economics Master of Business Administration in Managerial Economics Master of Science in Econometrics Graduate Coursework in Economics PhD in Economic Theory from the University of Birmingham, UK (1992-1997) Currently completing Graduate Coursework in Tertiary Education at the University of New England Dr. Yalcin's research spans three primary domains with significant depth in each area. His work in Microeconomics focuses on firm behavior, general equilibrium, and decision-making under risk and uncertainty, contributing to theoretical frameworks that explain complex economic behaviors. In Finance , his research examines incomplete markets, asset pricing, and corporate governance structures, with recent work analyzing the impact of geopolitical events like the Russia-Ukraine conflict on energy stock returns. His Political Economy research investigates voting behavior, electoral competition, and the influence of money in politics, including how campaign contributions affect election outcomes and welfare implications of lobbying activities. Dr. Yalcin's recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward interdisciplinary research that bridges economic theory with practical political and financial applications. His work increasingly focuses on contemporary issues such as geopolitical conflicts, campaign finance regulations, and innovative approaches to financial education. The methodological approaches in his research range from theoretical modeling to empirical analysis using advanced econometric techniques. Dr. Yalcin has been recognized for his expertise through invitations to contribute to important public discussions, most recently being invited to speak at the Independent Commission Against Corruption's (ICAC) Lobbying & Influence Public Forum in May 2024. As an academic supervisor, Dr. Yalcin has guided six Higher Degree Research students to completion. His supervisory interests align closely with his research expertise, particularly in decision-making under risk and uncertainty, game theory, political economy, asset pricing, and firm behavior. One of his recently completed students is Rubayat Sarwar, who earned an MSc in Economics in November 2021 with research in Political Economy. Dr. Yalcin contributes to academic discourse through his role as an educator, teaching courses including Financial Management, International Business Finance and Banking, Macroeconomics, Corporate Finance, International Trade, and Economics for Business.
