Teresa Hirzle is a former Research Associate and PhD Candidate at Ulm University, where she specialized in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), focusing on eye-based interaction and digital eye strain in Virtual Reality (VR) systems. She holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Media Informatics from Ulm University (2015 and 2017, both with distinction), and spent a year at the Universidad de Granada in Spain during her studies. Her research explores eye-tracking technologies, AR/VR Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs), and solutions to mitigate digital eye strain. She has taught courses such as 'Eye Tracking and Eye-based HCI' and supervised numerous theses on topics like VR discomfort, gaze-based interaction, and eye exercises to alleviate eye strain. Key contributions include advancing understanding of digital eye strain in VR HMDs, developing a design space for gaze interaction on HMDs, and exploring symbiotic human-machine depth sensing. She has been actively involved in organizing conferences like GermanHCI and served as a reviewer for venues like CHI and IEEE VR.
