Sonya Chelvanayagam is a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing at Bournemouth University. With dual nursing qualifications (Adult and Mental Health), she integrates clinical experience from HIV care, gastroenterology, and hospice settings into her academic work. Her PhD research focuses on end-of-life care for individuals with mental illness, bridging her expertise in mental health and physical comorbidities. MSc in Mental Health Studies, King’s College London (1999) Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching & Learning (University of Hertfordshire, 2005) Her research explores intersections of mental and physical health, particularly in gastrointestinal disorders, eating disorders, and stigma mitigation. Recent work investigates long-arm supervision in clinical education, while her PhD develops interventions for mental health patients in palliative care.
