Prof. Endre Szécsényi is a Hungarian academic specializing in Enlightenment-era aesthetics, environmental aesthetics, and the history of ideas. He holds a professorship at the Institute of Art Theory and Media Research, Department of Aesthetics, at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) since 2006 and was appointed university professor in 2015. His career spans multiple institutions, including the University of Pécs (1990-2002), Moholy-Nagy University of Arts (2003-2005), and the University of Aberdeen (Honorary Research Fellow, 2016-2024). PhD in philosophy from ELTE (2001) Habilitation at ELTE (2010) Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow (2014-2016) Founded RCANE (Research Centre for Aesthetics, Nature and Environment) in 2020 His research focuses on the intersections of aesthetics, ethics, and politics in 18th-century Britain, with a particular emphasis on Lord Shaftesbury, David Hume, and Edmund Burke. He also pioneers environmental aesthetics, exploring how aesthetic experiences shape ecological awareness and cultural practices. His editorial work includes co-founding the Laocoön Books series (2008-present) and editing the Aesthetics, Nature and Religion anthology (2020). Recent projects include the OTKA K-143294 research initiative on Environmental Aesthetic Perspectives (2022-2025). He has held visiting positions at institutions like IASH (Edinburgh), NIAS (Wassenaar), IWM (Vienna), and RIISS (Aberdeen). His publications span monographs, edited volumes, and critical essays addressing aesthetic theory, moral philosophy, and cultural history.
